Dr. Roberto Pili joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 2009, as Professor of Oncology, Chief of the Genitourinary Section and Co-Leader of the Genitourinary Program.
Dr. Pili earned his medical degree summa cum laude in 1989 from Catholic University School of Medicine, Rome, Italy. He was a visiting Fellow at the University of South Florida (Tampa, 1989). In addition, Dr Pili completed residency training in internal medicine at Catholic University (Rome, 1994) and Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY, 1997). Other fellowships include National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health (1994) and a clinical-research fellowship in Medical Oncology at The Johns Hopkins University (2000).
Dr. Pili came to RPCI from the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Johns Hopkins University, where he served as Associate Professor of Oncology and Urology.
Dr. Pili is licensed by New York State and the State of Maryland and board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
Dr. Pili specializes in the treatment of prostate, renal and bladder cancer. His laboratory research focuses on the development of novel therapeutic agents such as histone deacetylase inhibitors and understanding the mechanisms of angiogenesis in the progression of cancer. He also conducts phase I/II clinical trials of novel agents for the treatment of genitourinary malignancies. Dr. Pili is the recipient of research grants from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Dr. Pili is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research. He serves as a reviewer for study sections of the NCI and the Department of Defense.
Dr. Pili has authored or co-authored more than 130 journal publications, abstracts and book chapters.
