Dr. Michael K. K. Wong joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute in 2003, in the Departments of Medicine and Pharmacology & Therapeutics. He also serves as Medical Director of Clinical Drug Development and Medical Advisor to the Technology Transfer Office. Dr. Wong comes to RPCI from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he served as Assistant Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Wong earned his doctoral degree in Experimental Pathology in 1987 and his medical degree in 1989 from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He trained in Human Pathology in 1991 and completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 1993 at The Toronto Hospital. Dr. Wong completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology in 1995 at the University of Toronto; was a post MD fellow of the National Cancer Institute of Canada from 1995–1997, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in 1998 at the American Red Cross, Rockville, MD. He is board–certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Wong's research interests include the development of novel therapeutic strategies that target the host–tumor interface, as well as tumor angiogenesis, modifying tumor matrix and potentiating the host anti–tumor immune response. He has developed and is the Principal Investigator on a number of clinical trials including those using Endostatin and Thalidomide. His clinical focus is on Phase I trials with an emphasis on genitourinary cancers and sarcomas.

Dr. Wong holds two patents: "Use of Neuroserpin for the Treatment of Acute Focal Cerebral Ischemia" and "Endothelial Specific Targeting." His team was awarded the 2002 Grand Prize in the Business Plan Competition by the Pittsburgh Technology Council and this research was successfully funded by the Pittsburgh Biotechnology Greenhouse's Development Fund.

Dr. Wong is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists.

Dr. Wong is the author or co–author of more than 60 journal publications, abstracts and book chapters and serves as ad hoc peer–reviewer for the Journal of Neurosciences Methods, American Journal of Pathology, Oncology, and Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology.
